Dr. Schurman begain his career in audiology and neuromonitoring nearly 35 years ago. Gary received his bachelor and master degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, and later, his doctorate from the University of Florida. Early in his career, he joined a private medical group where he developed his keen interest in neuroanatomy and neurodiagnostic testing. He actively pursued the emerging field of intraoperative neuromonitoring in the late 1970s.
Dr. Schurman is a leader and innovator in the field. He has authored several scientific articles and textbook chapters. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he has maintained an active teaching schedule of neurosurgery and orthopedic residents. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Neurophysiological Monitoring and is currently President of Surgical Neuromonitoring Associates, Past Director of Intraoperative Neuromonitoring at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh and Clinical Assistant Professor in the neurosurgery residency program at West Virginia University medical school.
His current interest is Prostate Monitoring for Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy (RARP). However, he now spends the majority of his time in management and development activities.
